Understanding Scanners/Resolution and image sizeIndexHome

The screen size of the image size and the file size are the same; however, their respective printout sizes differ

This results from the fact that the size of the image on the monitor seems to be the same as the file size; nonetheless, their respective resolutions and dimensions differ. This is caused by the different ways monitors and printers produce images.

On monitors, the higher the image resolution is, the larger the image size. On the other hand, printers reproduce the image resolution without changing the size.

For instance, can image imported at 72 dpi with a scale of 200% and the same image imported at 144 dpi with a scale of 100%, will both be displayed at the same size on the monitor; their file sizes will also be the same. Nonetheless, their respective printout sizes will differ.

Size of the image on the screen is the same as that of the original, but the printout size is different
